O is for Oranges on your Face

Oranges for Natural Beauty

Oranges are full of Vitamin C, a substance we naturally beautiful women should be eating lots of for the antioxidant benefits we all need — and putting it all over our faces for all that it can do for our natural beauty.

Vitamin C is the key to the production of collagen, the valuable  protein that gives skin its firmness and strength, and also aids in the growth of cells and blood vessels.

You can refresh and revitalize your tired skin while also adding valuable moisture by applying an Orange Yogurt Mask to your face.  You’ll need a TBL. of yogurt and the juice of 1/4 of a peeled orange.  Make a paste of these ingredients and smooth the mixture over your face (be careful to avoid the sensitive eye area).  You’ll feel immediately refreshed and cooled off (very helpful on these hot summer days).  Leave the mixture on for about 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.  Apply your favorite moisturizer and see how your skin glows with citrus freshness!

Oprah, you have given us books to read and schools in which to learn to read.  You have debunked the myths and become a legend yourself.

Oprah, I have watched you when I was healthy and I have watched you when I was sick.  You have been there for me when I was depressed and lonely and out of work.  You have been there for me in the US and in the Caribbean and in Latin America, in California and Florida and New York and back and forth across the United States.

I have learned about fat and I have learned about Farrah.  I have seen you transform faces and figures and front yards and families.  I have shared The Secret and the shaman, and learned how to journal and how to express gratitude and love.

O is for Oil of Oregano and other Outrageous Claims

Oil of Oregano for Natural Health

I’m a firm believer in natural health, natural beauty and natural remedies.  However, I am skeptical about claims from companies who say their products “cure everything from asthma to cancer.”  And these companies are usually the ones who have infomercials or long-winded sales pitches that go on and on forever.

Oil of oregano is one product that has been hyped to the max.  I believe it may be useful to fight bacteria or fungus.  But could it possibly be useful to fight all of the following???

According to the website Wild Oregano Oil http://www.wildoiloforegano.com/

Wild oregano  maybe used to treat – “Acne, Animal bites, Arthritis, Asthma, Athlete’s foot, Bad breath, Bed sores and Ulcerations, Bladder Infections, Bromidosis (foul odor associated with excessive sweating), Boils, Bruises, Burns, Bursitis, Candidiasis, Canker sores, Cellulitis, Cold sores, Colds/Flu, Cough, Cryptosporidium, Dandruff and Seborrhea, Diaper rash, Diarrhea, Ear infections, Ebola and Dengue Fever, Eczema, Fingernail fungus, Frostbite and frostburn, Giardiasis, Gum Disease, Food poisoning, Head lice, Headaches, Hepatitis, Herpes, Impetigo, Irritable Bowel syndrome, Leg cramps, Nail fungus, Paronychia, Peptic ulcer, Pneumonia, Psoriasis, Prostate disorders, Pruritis, Radiation injury/burns, Ringworm, Rosacea, Scabies, Shingles, Sinusitis, Sore throat, Sports injuries, Tick borne illnesses, Thrush, Toothache, Tuberculosis, Varicose veins, Venomous bites, Warts and Wounds. Many other conditions are also treatable”.

???????????  Even if Oil of Oregano is a valuable treatment for fungus, perhaps, which I do believe it is – after reading this, I will automatically back off using it for anything. Especially after reading disclaimers that say – these products are  “not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.”  ?????????????????  What about the whole list of diseases and conditions just listed???????????

All I am saying is – be careful not to listen to hype.  There are and will always be “Snake Oil” salespeople who will package a natural remedy and sell it to you at an inflated price.  Natural health care should come from nature – and nature doesn’t charge an arm and a leg to cure a broken arm or leg.

Be careful!  Be knowledgeable, safe and secure in your healthcare choices.  Integrative medicine means using everything that is available – Eastern medicine, western medicine, herbs, poultices, plants and foods.

“Snake Oil,” by the way, is an actual treatment used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  The skin of the Chinese water snake is full of Omega 3 fatty acids, known to reduce inflammation.  So the Chinese have used “snake oil” for centuries for arthritis pain and joint aches.

N is for Nutmeg – Nature’s Niagara – OOPS I mean Viagra!

Nutmeg - Natural Health, Natural Aphrodisiac

Nutmeg is one of the many items you might have in your kitchen that can increase your man’s libido and boost your sexual life!

Researches have found that nutmeg at a relatively low dosage is an aphrodisiac substance that can add a little zest to a man’s desire without any negative side effects.

Nutmeg has been used throughout history for a variety of natural health remedies – The ancient Arabs not only valued it as a natural aphrodisiac, but also to treat digestive problems.  In India it was originally used to treat asthma and cardiovascular problems, and it is still used as a sedative.  The Kama Sutra speaks of sensual spices like nutmeg, cardamon, ginger, and cloves.

Ground nutmeg combined with some milk makes a wonderful face mask to treat acne.  Mix a paste of about 1 TBL. of ground nutmeg with 1/8 tsp. of milk to make a paste.  Apply it to your pimples and leave it on for 20 minutes.  Rinse with warm water and watch your pimples disappear.

And a little bit of nutmeg stirred into warm bed has been known to help you get a good night’s sleep.
