Z is for Zinc – JaZZ up your Zex life!

Oysters which look downright sexy, rank on the top on the list of aphrodisiacs, foods that can jaZZ up your Zex Life.   Other sexy looking foods like figs and truffles and chocolate syrup can zap up your zex life too!  Legend has it that Moctezuma, the Mexican Aztec king, drank up to 50 cups of chocolate a day to sustain his sex drive with his harem of 600 women!

Oysters are full of zinc, the mineral responsible  increasing your sex drive, for producing testosterone, and for maintaining progesterone levels, all of which have an effect on your libido. Lowered levels of zinc in a man’s body can lead to lower or no sex drive and lower sperm count.  Zinc can be an important factor in keeping a guy’s prostate healthy.  Research been shown that men with zinc deficiency are more likely to be impotent.

As for zinc and us naturally beautiful women, well as we get older we certainly don’t want our sex drive and libido to diminish and our juices to stop flowing.  So zinc is key in healthy senior women also.

Zinc’s got a lot of other health benefits.  It’s important for a healthy immune system and for  fighting skin problems such as acne, boils and sore throats.   Zinc keeps your hair, nails and skin healthy and helps to grow strong muscles.

There’s a shortage of zinc in a lot of people’s diet due to how food is processed these days.  Also our stressful lifestyle promotes fast depletion of zinc levels in the body. High levels of stress, as well as too much caffeine, smoking, and alcohol consumption increase the need for zinc.  A healthy dosage daily is 15 to 25 mg of zinc is recommended.  But keep in mind that too much zinc can be too much of a good thing – and cause adverse reactions and toxicity.

Foods that are rich in zinc:

  • Oysters and other shellfish
  • Chicken
  • Beef
  • Lamb
  • Brown rice
  • Eggs
  • Oatmeal
  • Cheddar cheese Cashews
  • Pecans & Walnuts
  • Peanut butter
  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Milk

V is for Viagra – Naturally, Of Course!

Men and Sex – we have some Valuable information.  Okay – we all know this is a blog about Natural Beauty and Natural Health for Women, but a lot of the women here love the men; and a lot of men’s issues affect our well-being and lives, and in turn our natural health.

If the guy of your life is having a hard time – or rather, if he is not having a hard time – he may be searching for something to make life simpler, or actually harder.  Stay away from the little blue pill – Viagra – cause the side effects are not worth the momentary pleasure —  IMHO!

Side effects of Viagra include hives, rashes, difficulty breathing, itching, tightness in the chest, painful and prolonged erection, numbness, memory loss, ringing in the ears, seizures, persistent or severe dizziness; sudden decrease or loss of hearing or loss of vision in one or both eyes; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue;  irregular or fast heartbeat, fainting; chest pain.

Is sex really worth that?  Good health is a turn on, and crotchety old complaining men (or women) are a real turn off!

What can you guys do?  I’ve written a lot about aphrodisiac foods, like caviar and oysters which are both full of sexually stimulating zinc.  Chocolate contains a few uplifting neurotransmitters including serotonin and phenylethylamine.  Asparagus and other phallic shaped fruits and vegetables have their place at the sexual table.  And heat-producing ingredients like chili peppers can turn up the sexual heat as well.  (See previous posts - O is for Oysters – Ooh La La and Z is for Zinc – AphrodiZiac!)

If nothing else, you’ll have a great meal – and if your partner’s like me – that sexual stimulus enough!

L-Arginine, an amino acid found in  nuts, meats, eggs, cheese and coconut milk,  forms nitric oxide in the body, which increases blood flow to the genitals.  Ginseng is a Chinese remedy that’s been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries; and the Journal of Urology is promoting it to men for its ability to act as an alternative to Viagra.

Peruvian Maca root from Peru has helped South American men to have increased semen volume, increased sperm counts, and enhanced sperm motility.  Also from South American is Muira Puama, another herb that decreases the incidence of erectile dysfunction, while increasing libido and sexual pleasure.  South America and the rainforest give us Catuaba Bark and Guarana – all of which are aphrodisiacs without the harmful side effects of Viagra.

So all you Voluptuous and Virile men out there – you’d be Very Very healthy and smart to choose them instead of Viagra!!!

S is for Sexy Seductive Snacks

The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach – especially if we’re looking for the sexy way!  And not just men.  Women too love their sexy foods.  Throughout history, certain foods have been valued as aphrodisiacs, sexual stimulants.  What makes a food sexy?  It could be the looks (think oysters or asparagus).  It could be the nutritional components (zinc and boron).  Or the smell or the feel or the texture.  Truth is we may not know what is fiction or what is fact, but we do know that certain foods are just downright sexy!

Let’s take oysters, for example.  Most everyone has heard legends of oysters being aphrodisiacs.  Oysters look sexy, don’t they?  And most sexual stirrings start in the mind with a mere suggestion of what might be coming next.  So oysters are sexually suggestive.  So are asparagus to some people.  Shapes and colors trigger a certain feeling, in the case of aphrodisiacal foods, that’s sex!

But oysters (and asparagus) aren’t just pretty porn pictures; they’re full of nutritional components that are connected to sex.  Oysters are full of zinc, and zinc is the mineral most responsible for maintaining adequate levels of progesterone and testosterone, which can increase libido.  Men with zinc deficiency have a tendency to be impotent.  So why not eat a few oysters?    Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love, rose up from the sea on a giant oyster shell and gave birth to Eros, the God of erotic love.  Rise up with oysters!  And the legendary lover Casanova supposedly got up every morning and ate 50 oysters before visiting the lover of the day.

Beets, believe it or not, are also very sexy to some. For centuries, picture of beets have been the secret symbol of brothels, including the official brothel of Pompeii which remains standing now, long after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius!  During World War II, Field Marshall Montgomery sent his soldiers off to rest and relax and take pleasure in the beetroot fields (the brothels).

Why beets?  Beets contain a high concentration of boron, a mineral directly related to the production of sex hormones These scarlet sex foods are chock full of nitrates and potassium which dilate the veins and arteries, increasing blood flow to the heart, as well as to the male genitals.  And the nitrates are responsible for increasing a person’s stamina and energy and allowing you to exercise longer and harder!!

Asparagus and bananas have a sexy shape.  Figs are provocative.  Nuts, especially walnuts, are being used in Kuala Lumpur to create a Viagra-like product called N-Hanz.  In ancient Iran (Persia), it was traditional for newly married couples to drink liquor made from honey for one month after the wedding while they “got to know each other” – hence the term, “Honeymoon.”  Chocolate – well, just give a woman chocolate and see how much she’ll love you.  (Read all about chocolate for natural beauty and natural health at C is for Chocolate – Eat it, Drink It, Smear It on Your Face!)

So — sex and food, a powerful combination.  Whether it be the look, feel, smell, taste, or even the sound of something sexy being slurped – go for it.  Next time you’re feeling seductive and sexy, swallow some sexy food!

R is for Roses – Really Romantic Remedies

Red, Red Rose – the symbol of romance, of beauty and of love.   Romance – the allure of a loved one preparing a romantic night on a bed strewn with rose petals, or a warm bath with rose petals floating sensuously.  The natural beauty of the aromas of roses has been incorporated into the world’s best perfumes for generations.

Greek mythology gives us the story of the creation of the rose.  The Goddess of Flowers (Chloris) transformed a lifeless nymph into a flower, with the help of the other gods.  Beauty came from Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love.  The scent of sweetness was the blessing of Dionysus, God of Wine.  From the Three Graces – Aglaia (Splendor), Euphrosyne (Mirth), and Thalia (Good Cheer) – came joy, charm, and brightness.  The West Wind in the form of Zephyr breathed the clouds away and life into her as Apollo, God of the Sun, allowed the sun to shine on the flower and make her bloom as the Queen of all the Flowers.

For all of us naturally beautiful women (and you men, too!), the rose is an ingredient we can really enjoy for natural skin care and for natural health. Rose essential oil is extracted from the flower head of the plant.  Aromatherapy (see A is for Aromatherapy – More than a Pretty Smell) guides us to the head of a plant when we are looking for remedies for the emotions and the nervous system.  Roses are especially important in stress relief and relaxation.

For skin care, rose oil is used best topically.  Add about 8 drops of rose essential oil (the best comes from Bulgaria) to each 10 ml of carrier oil (I like jojoba or sweet almond oils) to make a nourishing, moisturizing and beautifying treatment for the skin.

Rosewater is effective for eye infections.  Ice creams from the Middle East are prepared with rosewater.  Rose hips are powerfully filled with Vitamin C.  Rose is a scent associated with women and femininity and so it follows that symptoms experienced by women like PMS or post menopausal distress will be helped by roses and rose oil.  Rose aroma is uplifting and can be used to balance the emotions and enhance self-esteem.

For pampering yourself or romancing a loved one, nothing does the trick like soaking in a bathtub filled with warm water and rose petals.  Sprinkle a tub-full of water with your (pesticide free please!) rose petals and lie back on a pillow as you breathe in the aromatherapeutic magic of love and relaxation.  For a little sensuality and romance you can add a half cup of coconut milk like Cleopatra’s famous milk baths.

And roses just smell good so they will make you feel good.  What could be better for a Naturally Beautiful Women!

P is for Pomegranates for Passion, Prostates, and Perfect Skin!

Pomegranates are popping out all over my neighborhood and I’m so excited about their powers!   Pomegranates pack a powerful punch for your natural beauty and for your natural health and while they’re available for the next few months, should be used in your beauty regimen and on your plates. Pomegranate juice, popular in the Middle East, is now touted as one of the “superfruits” like acai and goji berries.  Pomegranates have been shown to have more antioxidants than green tea.  A 100 ml-serving of pomegranate juice contains 16 percent of the daily adult requirement of vitamin C, as well as pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), folic acid, potassium and iron.

The pomegranate appears in a lot of ancient literature, from Rumi to Shakespeare.  Some say the forbidden fruit of the Bible was not the apple after all, but a pomegranate fruit (which makes sense because the ruby red pomegranate is native to the Middle East.   Pomegranates, like most foods that are considered aphrodisiacs, look juicy and sexy.  A recent study in London showed that men and women who drank one glass of pomegranate juice a day for 14 days had a significant increase in testosterone, and increased sex drive.

Pomegranates are also powerful potions for your natural beauty.  Pomegranate oil is used in hot oil treatments prior to shampooing for dry, frizzy hair.  For strengthening nails and conditioning cuticles, apply the fruit’s oils to the nails or soak your fingers in it before a manicure.  It’s especially helpful to repair any damage right after removing gel nails.

Here are a few benefits to drinking pomegranate juice:

1.  Pomegranates, once again, have more antioxidants than even one of our other favorites – green tea.  Antioxidants lower your risk of heart disease and cancer, and have powerful anti-aging results.

2.  Pomegranates also have anti-inflammatory properties and help to decrease the incidence and damage caused by osteoarthritis.

3.  A study conducted by the Harvard Medical School, showed that pomegranate juice slowed down the proliferation of prostate cancer cells, great news for men.

4. Pomegranates also contain phytonutrients which can suppress estrogen production that slows the growth of breast cancer cells.

5.  Pomegranates significantly lower blood pressure and reduce the amount of arterial plaque buildup which can lead to cardiovascular disease.

6.  Pomegranates have been shown to inhibit the aggregation of abnormal platelets which can cause strokes and heart attacks.

7.  Pomegranates are packed full of vitamin A which decreases wrinkles and helps to prevent the aging of your skin.

8. Pomegranates are a good remedy for skin damaged by sun exposure.
