S is for Spas – Something Special for Someone like You!

A Day at the Spa

Hmmm – Relax!  Rejuvenate!  Rejoice!  How can you do this?  Have yourself a Spa Day!  Going to a spa is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.  Or you can give as a present to someone special – or you can get as a present for yourself.

Yes, I realize it can be a bit expensive – but aren’t you worth it?  Wouldn’t a spa day be perfect on your birthday or anniversary or today, perhaps, on Father’s Day?  Yes, men love to go to spas also – men adore facials, they love to get pedicures, and they all look and feel great after a massage!

A day at the spa is like a day in a dream.  A really good spa experience will look, feel, sound, taste, and smell delectable to you.  Imagine the feel  of a relaxing, soothing massage on every part of your body, the scent of lavender and orange, the sights of flowing water and beautiful architecture , the taste of a glass of champagne or a sip of tea infused with ginger or cucumber, the sounds of lilting meditation music – these are the sights and sounds and tastes of a perfect spa day!

Choose a spa that makes you feel special from the minute you enter.  You should be secure in the knowledge that it is sanitary and clean first of all.  Then you will want to be sure to find a spa that will engage all of your senses in a relaxing way.  Listen for calming sounds, look at relaxing colors, feel the silkiness of the products, and feel pampered by all of the staff.

Choose treatments that will make your body feel rejuvenated and your mind refreshed.  Luxuriate in the creaminess of the products.  Lavish yourself in a dream of being treated like royalty – for today, for you, for your spa day.

And — we do know it’s expensive – so don’t worry (be happy) and know that here at Naturally Beautiful Women, we will give you lots of tips and recipes for making your own spa products so that you can have your own Spa Day at Home!  check out all of our posts on Kitchen Cosmetics or Face Fixes from the Frig!

L is for LifePath Retreats, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico – Let Go, Live Large in a Lovely Location

LifePath Retreats, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

I love, love, love destination spas.  No where else can you leave behind all your cares and worries, leave behind your makeup and your sequins, let go of all your stories and concerns and learn how to live your life in joy and natural health and natural beauty.

For a day or a week or a month, however long you choose to stay at a destination spa or retreat facility, you can learn how to live a different kind of life – the kind of life you have always wanted to live.

I recently spent four days at LifePath Retreats in the beautiful Mexican Colonial town of San Miguel de Allende.  I did everything this retreat had to offer – I had Thai Massage and Mayan Massage and Ayurvedic and Swedish, acupuncture and polarity treatments.  I did two different types of yoga and practiced Qigong.  I was counseled by a Life Coach and a Naturopath.  I meditated and I met with a Shaman.  I had my astrology chart done and saw where I was going and where I had been.  I had a sumptuous facial and a luxurious body treatment at the new wellness spa.  I ate the most fabulous food prepared by in-house chef, Alicia Wilson Rivero.  And I learned how to cook this incredible food in a class designed to make cooking for myself fun, easy, healthy, and possible.  And to top it all off, I stayed in the most beautiful, serene and comfortable Mexican Colonial room where I could rest and relax in between it all.

Whew!  In four days, I changed my diet and I changed my mind – about how good my body, mind and spirit could feel and how I could make it feel good every day.  A retreat from the world outside (although the world outside was the incredible town of San Miguel de Allende, a mecca for beauty and creativity) – it was the very thing I needed after a long, long trip to Europe.

Retreats from the world, whether they be monasteries in France or personal growth centers like the Omega Institute, or any of the destination spas around the world, are special havens where you can reconnect with your inner self, unplug and digitally detox from computers and smart phones, and have a healthy escape from the norm, from the ordinary lives we often live.

LifePath Retreats is one of the best and most comprehensive destination retreats I have experienced and I recommend it to all of you highly for a jump start on a new life or a vacation in a wonderful location.  For more information, see  http://www.lifepathretreats.com/.

F is for Face Fixes From the Frig

Homemade Facials from your Frig for your Natural Beauty

Looking for a pick me up for tired and dull skin?  Look in your frig!

Looking for a remedy for acne?  Look in your frig!

Looking for a way to reduce oily skin or the appearance of wrinkles?  For natural beauty, you don’t have to look much further than the inside of your refrigerator or kitchen cabinets.

For dull and dry skin or hair, grab some of that real mayonnaise out of the frig and smush it all over your face.  Always remember when you’re applying lotions or creams or fruits and vegetables to you skin, use circular and upward motions to get a head’s up (or a face’s up) on how gravity tends to pull us down.

Need a little rejuvenator for your face after a long day or a short sleep?  This Cucumber, Yogurt and Parsley Facial from your frig will work great 1 tsp. Cucumber
1 tsp. Parsley
1 tsp. Plain Yogurt

Puree the parsley and cucumber really fine and mix in the yogurt to form a smooth cream.  Apply it to your face and leave the mask on for approximately 15-20 minutes for best results. Rinse with water. This will moisturize while it perks you up.  Only make as much as needed for each application, as it does not keep – even in the Frig!

For Acne, grab some eggs and honey and whip them all together for a face mask.

To dry up your oily skin, mix 2 TBL. of Baking Soda (see previous post D is for Double Duty Kitchen Cosmetics – Baking Soda Does It!) with enough lemon juice or tomato juice to make a thick paste and apply to the face and neck area. Massage gently and avoid the sensitive area around the eyes.

E is for Exfoliation – Every NBW nEEds a scrub Every now & ThEn!

Exfoliate for Natural Health and Natural Beauty

The largest organ of the body is the skin and it is out there all the time getting assaulted by every kind of pollution and contamination swirling around in the air.  As a naturally beautiful woman concerned with her natural health and natural beauty, you want to be sure to take care of your precious skin.

Old dead skin makes you look old and on your way to death – dear me!  It pays to get rid of that top layer of dirt every once in a while by gently exfoliating with some natural homemade scrubs.

A very simple scrub can be made with about ½ cup of raw or brown sugar and some grapeseed or sweet almond oil mixed in to make a gritty paste.  Mix this all together and spread it over your face and body, using circular motions to gently exfoliate.  The grit of the sugar will get in and unclog your pores and remove dirt and prevent blemishes.  Rinse everything off in a warm shower, taking care with the sugary slush on a slippery floor!  If you do this body exfoliation once or twice a month, your skin will be fresh and dirt free and radiate luxurious natural health!

For variety you can use another sweetener – honey mixed with some oatmeal and a bit of apple cider vinegar (seeV is for Vinegar = ACV for Natural Health).  Form a smooth paste, adding honey as needed.  You can add a drop of rosemary or basil essential oil for an exhilarating pick me up.  Follow the instructions above for a total body scrub.

Avocado is a delicious addition to your exfoliation mixture that will moisturize and nourish your skin.  To any of the scrubs, you can add some essential oils for extra vitality and scent – cinnamon and ginger for a spicy mix, or lavender or rose for fabulous femininity.

When you’re looking for a great gift for your girlfriends or your grandmothers, put any of these blends into a clean glass jar and wrap it all up with a bow.  Excellent for Every Occasion!

D is for Dry Skin – Don’t you Dare!

Dry Skin - Not for Natural Beauty!

Dry, scaly skin is not something we naturally beautiful woman want on any part of our bodies.  It will just make you look and feel old and tired and less than a natural beauty.  But there’s help right there in your kitchen!

First we’ll use a little bit of that natural organic honey to exfoliate and get rid of the flaky old skin!  Take two tablespoons of honey and add it to a half a tablespoon of sugar.  Combine these and apply it to your face using upward circular motions (always to prevent wrinkles).  Massage for 3-5 minutes, being careful to avoid the eyes.  Rinse with warm water, pat dry and get ready for a moisturizing, replenishing homemade facial mask.

Moisturize, moisturize and moisturize – every day, every night.  Use a homemade cream with Vitamin E which acts as a preservative for the cream and for your skin!

YOGURT HONEY FACIAL MASK

2 tsp. plain yogurt
1/2 tsp. honey
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
3 capsules vitamin E  (equivalent of 300 units)

Mix yogurt, honey and lemon juice. Open up  vitamin E capsules and combine the liquid with the  other ingredients. Gently massage like before with circular strokes.  Leave on skin for 15 minutes.  Rinse with warm water.  Apply your favorite natural moisturizer.

Keeping your skin clean with a gentle cleanser will give you a youthful look.  Make sure you ALWAYS remove your makeup before you go to bed, no matter how late or how exhausted you are.  If not your pores will get clogged and it will make you look old.

Avoid too much exposure to the sun because it is no good for your whole body, but it is especially harmful and aging to  your face and your neck.
