B is for Baking Soda for Beautiful Hair

Baking Soda for Natural Hair Beauty

Baking soda has some great benefits for making your hair naturally beautiful.  Because of its alkanizing properties, you can use baking soda to clarify your hair and get rid of old residue that makes it dull and dry.

Add just one TBL. to a cup of warm water and pour it over your hair. If you have thick hair or curly hair try adding a little bit more baking soda to the mix, and if your hair is thin or fine, use a little less.

Finish this off with an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse to detangle, balance the hair’s pH, and close the cuticle which helps to protect the hair from damage.  To use the vinegar rinse, dilute 1 part apple cider vinegar with 4 parts water and rinse the hair with the mixture.

If you’re a swimmer or do water aerobics, you’ll want to use baking soda to get rid of any chlorine deposits.  Rinse hair with 1/2 tsp. baking soda in 1 pint water to remove the dullness or discoloration that can occur after being in a chlorinated pool.  To keep your hair from absorbing too much chlorine, rinse your hair with fresh water before getting into the pool.  Hair that is super-saturated with fresh water tends to pick up less chlorine.

You can even keep your combs and brushes clean and free of build-up by soaking them overnight in a solution of warm water, 3 TBL. of baking soda and 3 TBL. of bleach!
