I is for Impeccability – with your Word

The Four Agreements

I consider myself a very spiritual being – how about you?  Spirituality is different from religion in that it’s more personal, more inner directed.  Religion tends to connote an organization of like-minded people having the same beliefs and celebrating them together.

One of my favorite spiritual systems or paths is Don Miguel Ruiz’s simple plan called “The Four Agreements.”  http://www.miguelruiz.com/

This easy path consists of 4 suggestions for living:

1.  Be impeccable with your word.  Watch what you say.  Thoughts become things. Speak with integrity and use your words for love and truth, not for gossip or speaking against people or actions.

2. Don’t take anything personally.  Consider the source.  Most of the time what people are doing and saying has absolutely nothing to do with you, but comes from deep within their own souls.  If you can become immune to others’ opinions, you will save yourself an enormous amount of suffering.

3.  Don’t make assumptions.   Ask questions, get clarity and avoid misunderstandings. You’d be surprised at how wrong you can be!

4.  Always do your best.  How you do one thing is how you do everything, so always do your best no matter what you are doing.  It will follow through for you in the next attempt to do something, and the one after that, and after that.  Develop the habit of excellence.

The simplicity of these teachings never ceases to amaze me!  By following these four simple tenets, you open yourself and the world around you to peace, joy, abundance, and most of all to love.
