Don’t worry, be happy! It’s been years since Bobby McFerrin sang this song, but the message is still really important to your natural health and to your natural beauty.
Research has shown that optimistic people recover from sickness and wounds faster, they have healthier immune systems, and reduced risk of heart disease and a whole bunch of other natural health benefits. Smiling rather than frowning is good for your natural beauty, and as we’ve seen already – people who stop, breathe and meditate are much better off than those who don’t. (See M is for Meditation Moments of OMMMMM). Meditation can take the edge off worrying and give you some real moments of happiness.
What happens when you worry? Worrying can cause stress and anxiety and symptoms such as fatigue and sleeplessness, inability to concentrate, muscle aches and tension, dry mouth and difficulty swallowing, nausea and shortness of breath. All of these symptoms can lead to actual illness including digestive problems and cardiovascular disease and heart attacks.
Optimism, or positive thinking, can turn your life around. Just putting a smile on your face can signal your brain to stop worrying and at least try to be happy. This will lower your blood pressure, make you like yourself and others a lot more, and extend your life by reducing your risks of heart attack and stroke.
