H is for Honey – How to Help your Hands

Honey for Natural Beauty

You can fool people about your age with a young-looking face and healthy looking hair.  But it’s hard to hide your age when you look at your hands.  It seems we all do what we can to prevent the tell-tale signs of aging on other parts of our bodies, but most often we neglect our hands.  And our hands are exposed to sun every day (if you live in a great climate!) and to the pollution and chemicals and free radicals that cause the damages that make us sick and old.

There isn’t a lot of fat on the backs of hands, so when we’re getting older and the collagen and elastin fibers on them start to break down, the result can be wrinkly, crepe-like crinkly skin with bulging veins that make your hands appear as old as you are, if not older.

There are very expensive creams on the market that promise youthful hands.  We don’t go there if we can.  We prefer the do it yourself kind of kitchen cosmetics that are inexpensive, chemical free, and just as luxurious and nourishing as anything you can buy.

HONEY HAND CREAM

  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar  (see previous post – V is for Vinegar)
  • 2 teaspoons beeswax
  • 1 tablespoon all natural honey
  • 1 teaspoon avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon almond oil
  • 3.5 ounces of rose water
Heat the apple cider vinegar in a double boiler until it begins to simmer at the bottom of the pan.  Cut 2 teaspoons of beeswax in small pieces if you have purchased in block form, or add 2 teaspoons of pellets to the simmering vinegar if you have purchased in pellet form. Stir constantly to prevent burning.  Stir in one tablespoon of all natural honey.  Add one teaspoon of avocado oil and one teaspoon of almond oil.  Pour in 3.5 ounces of rosewater (you can purchase this or make an infusion of rose petals in distilled water).  Cool and pour into a clean sterilized jar.

H is for Healthy Homemade Hair Products, Part 2

Homemade Hair Products for Naturally Beautiful Hair

For a fantastic homemade hair conditioner that will detangle and make your hair shine, mayonnaise is a great conditioner, especially for dry hair.   Depending on the length of your hair, apply approximately 1/2 cup of mayonnaise to your dry hair. Work into hair really well and then cover your hair with a plastic bag, allowing to set for about 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and then shampoo as usual.

Hair Masks are wonderful for deep conditioning at least once a month and they, too, can come straight out of your kitchen.

DEEP CONDITION WITH OLIVE OIL AND HONEY AND ACV

2 tbl. Honey
1 tbl. Apple cider vinegar

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and apply it to the hair and scalp. Use a wide toothed comb to comb through the hair and evenly spread the hair mask. Let it stay for an hour and then wash off with lukewarm water. This is one of the best home hair mask recipes.

Anti-Aging Facials for Natural Beauty

No one wants to deliberately look old, no matter how much of a Healthy Senior Woman you might feel you are.  Here’s a great recipe for an anti-aging facial mask you can make and apply at home, with an explanation of all the ingredients and why you should use them!

1 TBL. of French Rose Clay – Rose Clay is deeply hydrating and moisturizes the skin.  Clay draws bacteria and impurities to the surface which can then be exfoliated for removal.  Clay also absorbs excess oil.

1 TBL. of instant oatmeal or finely ground regular oatmeal – Oatmeal is a great exfoliator and smooths the skin.

1 tsp. of honey – Honey is a humectant and moisturizes the skin, an antioxidant which protects the skin, and honey is the only food that never goes bad – sounds good for your skin!

1 tsp. of avocado oil – Avocado oil is one of the richest emollients.  It is also high in sterolins, which help to reduce age spots and help heal sun damage and scars

1 drop of frankincense oil – Frankincense is known for its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

1 drop of neroli (or lavender) oil – Neroli oil has antioxidants that prevent premature aging

1 drop of rose oil – rose oil contains Vitamin B3, which boosts circulation to the skin and helps prevent redness.  And rose oil is the most feminine of all essential oils – makes you feel all “girly!”

To make this anti aging facial mask, use water to make a paste of all the ingredients. Apply the mask mixture to the face for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Pat dry the face with a clean towel.  Put on your favorite moisturizer and look in the mirror.

Anti-Aging masks work!
