C is for Color Care with Chamomile

Chamomile for Blonde Natural Beauty

For those of you who are the popular blonde babes that we talked about before (see previous post B is for Bundchen the Blonde Bombshell), you can keep your hair looking light and bright by using chamomile flowers in a hair rinse.

To make a great hair rinse, get some dried chamomile flowers (available in natural foods or crafts stores) and some lemongrass.  The chamomile will add shine to the hair, while the essential oils in the lemongrass will coat and protect the hair.

Boil 6 cups water and add 2 tablespoons loose chamomile tea and
2 tablespoons loose lemongrass tea (you can also add some nice smelling essential oils – like lemongrass).  Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes.  Strain and cool and then pour the cooled mixture into a spray bottle.  Keep refrigerated.

Next time you shower and wash your hair, spray your blonde locks with the chamomile mixture and your hair will be shiny, golden and silky.  To increase the golden glow, go out in the sunshine and your hair will lighten and brighten even more!

Another great chamomile rinse for your blonde hair is an infused Chamomile Vinegar, using one of our favorite natural health ingredients, Apple Cider Vinegar (see V is for Vinegar – ACV for Natural Health).

  • Approx 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons dried chamomile flowers
  • Peel from 1 lemon
  • 20 drops chamomile essential (optional)

Mix the chamomile flowers and lemon peel in a clean glass jar, and cover with the vinegar so that the flowers and peel are covered completely.  Leave in a warm dark place for about 2 weeks, giving a gentle shake daily.  Rinse as directed for the first recipe!

R is for Rosemary for Rockingly Radiant Roots and tResses

Rosemary for Natural Beauty for your Hair

Looking to rid your hair of dryness?  Get it to be more radiant?  Rock the red carpet with richly beautiful locks?  Grab some of that rosemary that is growing all around you and whip up a concoction that will make your hair shiny and naturally beautiful!

Rosemary essential oil helps to stimulate the hair follicles which can make your hair grow longer and stronger. It is also believed that rosemary oil slows down premature loss of hair and even graying of hair.   If you rinse brown hair with rosemary oil, it will keep it looking a bit darker.  Rosemary essential oil is also great for relieving dry and flaky scalps.

To make a wonderful conditioner that will make your hair healthy,  put a few drops of rosemary oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and rub it through your towel-dried hair.   You can also put a bit of the oil on your comb or brush and use them to comb your hair.  Then dry it and style it and look ravishingly radiant!

A simple, healthful water infusion can be made by putting several handfuls of rosemary into a water-filled pot, bring the water to a boil, and gently simmering for about 10 – 15 minutes.  Let the mixture cool, strain it into a clean container, and pour throughout your hair just after shampooing.  The aroma of rosemary is delicious in your hair!

Rosemary combined with raw organic Apple Cider Vinegar (see previous post – V is for Vinegar – ACV for Natural Health) is a great way to treat dull, dry and droopy hair that tends to fall out.  To prepare the mixture, fill a clean jar or bottle with dried or fresh rosemary sprigs and pour raw, unheated apple cider vinegar over the herbs, completely covering the herbs.  Seal the jar and let the mixture infuse for at least two weeks in a dark place, shaking the jar occasionally.   Use once a week as a hair rinse,  mixing several tablespoons of the rosemary vinegar with lukewarm water and pouring the mixture onto your scalp and hair.   This rosemary rinse is so remarkable, you will begin to notice the difference in just a week or two – and you will start to have Radiant Rosemary tResses!

J is for JoJoba – Just natural oil for your hair and skin

Jojoba - Desert Juice for Natural Beauty

Jojoba oil is a pure and natural plant extract produced in the seed of the the Desert Jojoba shrub.  Jojoba is the nearest thing to human sebum, an oily substance produced by the sebaceous glands which serves to make the skin and hair waterproof and to protect them from drying out.  Too little and your skin and hair will be dry and itchy, too much and you might find yourself with a case of acne.

Jojoba has many uses for us naturally beautiful women.  It can be used straight as a face and body moisturizer.  You can put some on a cotton pad and use it to remove eye makeup while it conditions your lashes.  It’s a great alternative to store-bought lip balm.  A few drops a day will keep your cuticles in great shape.  To get rid of split ends, rub a few drops on the ends of your hair before blow drying.  And if you want a great hair rinse to make your hair sexy and shiny – try this jojoba and beer hair conditioner:

1 cup warm beer

1 teaspoon jojoba oil

Mix together the warm beer and jojoba oil; if the beer is cold, the oil will harden (jojoba has a waxy consistency when cold). Shampoo and rinse as usual. Pour the conditioner over your head and massage into your scalp and hair. Rinse well. Lightly shampoo and rinse again if your hair feels oily.

H is for Homemade Hair Products for a Healthy Head, Part 1

Healthy Hair - Naturally Beautiful

For beautiful, naturally healthy hair, look no farther than your kitchen.  In my kitchen, I usually have avocado, mayonnaise, lemons or limes, bananas, yogurt, extra virgin olive oil – sometimes eggs and honey.  Every single one of those items are not only healthy for your insides, but they are also fabulous for giving your hair that extra boost that will make it look gorgeous!

Banana avocado mask

For beautiful locks like those in the picture, don’t eat this!  (Well, that does help!)  Slather your hair in this rich mask to bring back its luster.

A word about bananas in your hair – Bananas add richness and luster, but you have to (I repeat, absolutely have to) blend and puree them before you put them in – otherwise, there will be little bits and pieces of bananas left in your hair – trust me, I’ve had that happen!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 3 Tbsp yogurt
  • 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Blend banana, egg and avocado in blender.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and blend until well combined.
  3. Apply to hair from roots to tips.
  4. Leave in for 30 minutes and then wash out with a moisturizing shampoo.
  5. Double the recipe for long hair.
  6. Use twice a month to maintain healthy hair.

Healthy hair rinses -

To give your hair a great shine and help remove soap build up, instead of reaching for that extra expensive hair product, use these common household ingredients.
If you are a blonde, add a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice to your rinse water.   For brunettes and redheads, apple cider vinegar in your rinse water.  For everyone, stir 1 tsp. of honey into 4 C. (1 quart) warm water. After shampooing, pour mixture through hair. Do not rinse out. Dry as normal.
