A is for Anti-Aging — It’s not All About Attitude

What makes a naturally beautiful woman of any age look, feel and act younger?  It’s all about attitude!  Yes, what’s inside your mind, body and soul are what make you vibrant, alive, sexy and youthful.  And a little help with the outside doesn’t hurt either!

Having an open mind keeps your whole body active and healthy.  One of the best ways you can improve your anti-aging ability is to change your attitude and stop acting and behaving like an old fuddy duddy!  Smile – you’ll look younger (and you’ll feel a lot better too!). Get some sleep because without enough sleep, you’re tired all day which makes the body produce excess cortisol, a hormone that disintegrates skin cells.  See Previous Post – S is for Sleep – Some Timely Tips for Sound Snoozing).

Here are some outward tell-tale signs of looking old:

Granny pants up around your waist or jeans that don’t fit and make muffin tops -

Wearing the wrong size bra – Back fat and saggy breasts or uniboobs – get a good fitting and get those girls up high and perky

Wearing clothes from Forever 21 when you’re forever 65.  Too much skin exposed, too tight or too short skirts, or too much cleavage hanging out – you’re not Britney Spears, you know!

Too much bling-y jewelry, too much jewelry of any kind – especially jewelry that doesn’t flatter your neck – Wattle necks are for turkeys, not NBW!  Wear some beautiful earrings that draw attention to your eyes and keep those chokers away from the wattle.

The little mistakes that we think people don’t notice – Long red nails or chipped and  discolored nails, roots showing or ashy-looking gray hair, teeth that are yellowing, cakey foundation that stops at your neck.  Lipstick spots on your teeth or lipstick bleeding onto the lines on your face.  All of these can be taken care of if we look into the mirror and pay attention.

What makes you look old is looking like you really tried too hard or else looking like you never tried at all.

What makes you look, act and feel young is what we’re all about here at Naturally Beautiful Women.  We’re back to the beginning with “A” again and we’ll be telling you all sorts of tips to live the best possible life you can – looking good, feeling healthy, being happy, staying motivated, and just plain enjoying life!

A is for Anti-Aging Attitude

Aging is like the picture here – an optical illusion.  The same person can feel young at heart one day, and like an old lady the next.  What’s the difference?  Same person, different attitude.

Having an open mind keeps your whole body active and healthy.  Letting go of  the notion that you have to be right all the time not only makes you seem younger, but it also makes you a more interesting people, and interesting people have more fun in their lives.  And people who have more fun in their lives just seem younger.  One of the best way you can improve your anti-aging ability is to stop thinking and acting like an old fuddy duddy!  Learn something new!  Be Open!  Hang out with Youthful Acting People! Express a new idea!

See Previous Post ( Z is for Zest and Zeal and Zip a Dee Doo Dah – Hooray for Life!)

These are ways you can improve your mental outlook and appear to be younger than you might be.  There are also a few things you can do to make your outward appearance look younger:

Just to start off with the basics – Do clean your skin regularly and take off your makeup every night.  Do use moisturizer.  Do stay out of the sun. Do drink plenty of water.   Don’t smoke.  Don’t sleep on your face.  Don’t yo-yo diet because it will stretch and pull your skin out of shape.

Use light pink or nude lipstick or lip gloss to give your lips just a bit of a rosy hue.  As we get older, our lips tend to shrink and dark lipstick on thin lips can make you look older, especially when the lipstick runs out the wrinkles.

Draw attention away from your flaws and put it on your assets.  Wattle-necks and loose neck skin are really aging!  Don’t wear chokers and short necklaces that bring the attention there.  Wear beautiful earrings that draw the eyes up, up and away from the wattle.

Eyes are one of the best features we can use to look a little younger.  Using an eyeliner pencil rather than a liquid liner can create a softer look, especially if it’s smudged with a Q-tip to make it more natural looking.  If you must use liquid, make it smooth, or you’ll look like a shaky little old lady!

Eyebrows and eyelashes thin out with time also.  Use a brow pencil to brush upwards and shape your eyebrows into a nice arch. Use an eyelash curler to emphasize and separate the lashes you have left. This will give you an immediate eye lift!

The truth is we’re not getting any younger, but big deal and so what?  You can’t stop the clock, but you can stop the wrinkles and the lines and the frumpy old lady look!

F is for Fabulous Forties, Fantastic Fifties, and Still going Strong at Sixty

Healthy Senior Women looking fabulous

We’re not getting older.  We’re getting better.  We have more natural health.  We have more natural beauty!  We are women – hear us roar!

Now let’s be serious – yes, today it’s not unusual for a woman “of a certain age” to look young and vibrant and sexy.  But there are some rules that we have to follow to pull it off!

BRAS AND BREASTS - Nothing makes a woman look older than sagging body parts.  Get yourself a proper fitting, don’t be concerned about the size or the number.  Just make sure your breasts are riding high and perky!

DON’T DRESS YOUNG -- First of all, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Don’t buy your clothes at Forever 21 if you are forever 61 now.  It just looks like you’re an old woman wearing a young girl’s clothes.

JEANS –  When it comes to casual dressing, jeans still fit the bill, but make sure they also fit the butt!   Don’t wear them too low like a teenager, and don’t wear them high-rise like “mom jeans.”  Either one is unflattering and can create that devil of a muffin top.  Wear dark wash jeans or denim blue, without any fading, bleaching, tears or wild embroidery  (except if you have no butt like me, then a little bit of embroidery on the top of the back pockets can give you some extra pizzazz).  A boot cut with a slight bottom flare can balance out your hips. And trouser jeans are especially flattering, with a wider leg, wider waistband and flat front.  Stretchy denim with 2 to 3 percent Lycra is flattering and comfortable.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS — Still the thing to wear.  Get one that flatters and fits and you will have the perfect dress to wear to any occasion at any age!

And when you’re ready to go out – STOP!!!  Check your butt in the mirror and make sure it’s looking as good as the rest of you!

A is for Anti-Aging Advice to Look Younger, Part 2

You Don't Need to Look Like an Old Lady - Makeup for Natural Beauty

I don’t really know anyone who looks like that and maybe it’s because the healthy senior women I know use all of the natural beauty tips for looking younger!

As we get older, we get drier – all over our bodies, but especially our face and neck and hands.  Young skin tends to look moist and ‘dewy.’  Powdered foundation can make you look even older, so opt instead for liquid foundation and creamy blush.  Take a finger and lightly dab a pea-sized amount of moisturizer after your makeup application to create “dewy skin.”

For lining your eyes,  pencils can create a softer look than liquid eyeliner.  Smudge a little bit with a Q-tip to make it more natural-looking.  Liquid eyeliner is easier to apply, but make sure you keep the line very smooth and thin, or you’ll look like a shaky old lady.  Put a little upward tilt on the outer corner of your eyes for a happier, younger look.

If you’ve got loose neck skin and don’t want to look like a wattle-necked turkey, take care with your jewelry.  Stay away from chokers and short necklaces that draw attention to your neck and instead, wear beautiful earrings that draw the eyes up, up and away from the wattle.

One of the best anti-aging makeup tools is the Eyelash Curler.  As we get older, we have wispier, thinner eyelashes and we want to make them look as thick as possible.  An eyelash curler will help to lift and separate what eyelashes you have left.  Wear the darkest black eyelash mascara you can find and it will make the whites of your eyes look whiter and younger.

Pay attention to your eyebrows as they thin out with time also.  Use a brow pencil to brush upwards and shape your eyebrows into a nice arch. This will give you an immediate eye lift!

A is for Anti-Aging Advice – Dos and Don’ts to Look Younger

Anti-Aging Makeup for Natural Beauty

We’re not getting any younger.  So what?  There’s nothing we can do to stop the clock, but we can stop the wrinkles and the lines and the frumpy old lady look!

Just to start off with the basics – Do cleanse your skin regularly and take off your makeup every night.  Do drink plenty of water.  Do use moisturizer.  Do stay out of the sun.  Don’t smoke.  Don’t sleep on your face.  Don’t yoyo diet (it will pull and stretch your skin out of shape.).

OK – now that we’ve got the basics out of the way, how about using makeup to make you look younger and not using it to make you look older?

Use light pink or nude lipstick or lip gloss to give your lips just a bit of a rosy hue.  As we get older, our lips tend to shrink and dark lipstick on thin lips can make you look older, especially when the lipstick runs out the wrinkles.  De-emphasize your lips with a near to nude shade, and play up your eyes for a younger look! Try using Lip Gloss instead of lipstick to create the illusion of thicker, younger, puffed-up lips, especially when applied to the middle of lip

You want to draw attention away from your flaws and put it on your assets.  Eyes can stand out for a younger look, so pay attention to what works for your eye color.  (Please don’t match your eye shadow to your clothing, or your shoes and your purse – PLEASE!!!). Certain eyeshadow shades  make your eyes pop. For brown or hazel eyes, golds and browns are gorgeous. Blue eyes look great with blue-gray and lighter browns and dark eyes look fantastic with dark shades.
