L is for Lemons – for Less coughs and Less weight

Lemons for Lots of Natural Beauty and Natural Health

Lemons just look like they are bursting with natural health, don’t they!  Bright and sunny and yellow.  Since ancient times, lemons have been used for their incredible healing properties.  Lemon juice and lemon peel and lemon seeds all have powerful detoxifying properties.  Lemon can be very helpful in reducing coughs and helping to relieve flu symptoms.  Boil some water and put a medium-sized lemon in the pot for about 15 minutes.  Once the lemon is soft, cut it and squeeze out the juice, making sure to strain it to get rid of the pulp.  Add about 3 TBL. of honey to the lemon juice and take 1 TBL. 3 times a day.  This is especially helpful during flu season!

Lemon juice mixed with warm water will go through your body and rid it of a lot of the chemicals, pollutants, and free radicals that attack our bodies all day long.  A lemon detox is created by blending lemons with hot water. The result is a natural remedy. The solution helps with digestive issues and other conditions such as heartburn, nausea and constipation. A solution of lemon and hot water acts to flush toxins from the liver. This prevents harmful toxins from being absorbed by the body. Lemon peels have been shown to regulate blood sugar levels, a plus for diabetics.

Some say that lemons mixed with cayenne pepper and water is a magical Master Cleanse that will enable you to lose lots of weight easily while detoxifying your body (see previous post – C is for Cayenne and Beyoncé’s Crazy Cayenne Diet).

Lemons are great for do it yourself hair and skin treatments.  See the next post for some great lemony tips!

J is for Juicing for Just about everything

Juicing - a powerful natural health remedy

Want to get more oomph out of your day, then get it out of your diet!  Although I believe that eating whole fruits and vegetables is the best way to get nutrition and fiber into us, juicing is a good alternative.  It will give you some more liquid (although water is what really counts for natural health) and it will give you the nutrition available in fruits and vegetables.  You can go on a juice fast, if you wish, to jump start your weight loss and diet!

5 carrots
1 cucumber (English are really good)
1/2 bell pepper
1/4 red,and yellow and orange bell pepper
2 apples
3 stalks of celery
juice of one lime
1/2 bunch of parsley
one inch of ginger root
2 cups Pineapple chunks fresh (optional)

After juicing place juice in a blender add

2-3 handfuls of spinach blend until smooth

Drink daily to every other day for best results and use organic produce whenever possible!

To detox from pollution and chemicals (all around us everywhere), try juicing some organic greens and carrots in the morning.  They will flush out your system and take lots of the bad stuff away with them!

And to jumpstart your weight loss program, have a juice fast for a day or two, just to get your body used to less food and more vegetables and fruits.  It will look good on the scale and on you, too!

F is for Fasting – is it For you?

Fasting for Natural health

Fasting is not for me.  I get a headache if I go three hours without a meal, so I choose not to fast.  But fasting is a way to regulate your body, possibly lose some weight by jump starting your mind, body and spirit into eating and drinking less.  Some researchers say that fasting, at least on alternating days, can slow down the aging process by reducing the impact of free radical damage.

Many religions believe that fasting is a spiritual path to God.  Jews fast on Yom Kippur to atone for their sins, Muslims celebrate Ramadan with prayer and fasting.  By clearing the mind of food and drink, it is freed to meditate and listen for spiritual guidance.

If you are physically capable of going without food, it doesn’t hurt to take a day off now and then from our regular habits of three meals a day of healthy combinations of protein and fats and carbs diet, to do a little mini-fast with some healthy detox drinks.

Detox diets help the body to get rid of dangerous toxins and flush out some of the pollution and chemicals that seep into our bodies just by every day living.

Herbal teas can be a great aid to helping you flush out your system – peppermint, ginger and dandelion are a few good choices. Dandelion, as we talked about in an earlier post, is a liver cleanser, while green tea decreases your cholesterol while it works to detox your body.  The best herbal tea for your indigestion or other gastrointestinal problems is delicious peppermint.

Juice fasts with fresh vegetables, fruits and sprouts are another way to keep up your energy while not eating food for a day.  Drink some lemon and water all day long to keep you hydrated while it flushes out your system.

D is for Detoxing – Do it every now and then!

Detox Juices for Natural Health

Every so often it doesn’t hurt to take a day off from our regular three meal a day, protein and fats and carbs diet, to do a little mini-fast with some healthy detox drinks.

Detox diets are meant to help rid our bodies of toxins and flush out some of the crap that just hangs around inside of us like pollution and chemicals.

You can brew up some herbal teas that will help you to flush your system – peppermint, ginger and dandelion are a few good choices.  Ginger, peppermint and dandelion tea are three wonderful teas to brew to detox.  Green tea not only helps you to detox, it also reduces cholesterol.  And dandelion, as you’ll see in the previous post, is a liver cleanser, while peppermint is the go to herb for any kind of digestive distress like nausea.

Citrus fruits are great for detoxing – especially lemons and limes.  other good vegetables to stick in the blender on your detox diet day are artichokes or broccoli, apples and asparagus.

A great way to start any day, not just the detox day, is to drink a great big glass of water mixed with the juice of one half of a fresh lemon first thing in the day.  This will act as a detoxifier, a liver cleanser, and start your day off with part of the daily requirement for water.
