Jamaica (pronounced Ha-My-Ka) flower tea is an iced tea made from the Mexican hibiscus flower. Jamaica flower tea is called “Agua de Jamaica.” Made from a strong brew of hibiscus flower tea, Jamaica flower tea is a tart, flavorful red tea, often sweetened heavily with sugar.
There are several health benefits to this delicious tea. It is a diuretic, meaning that it works similarly to plain water and courses through the body and is excreted through urination. It is also a laxative and helps to relieve constipation. All of this helps to regulate digestion and move food and toxins through and out of the body.
Jamaica flower tea is very high in Vitamin C, the antioxidant we know reduces the damage from free radicals that may cause heart disease and cancer. Vitamin C, like that found in Jamaica, also acts as an Immune Booster (see previous posts: I is for the Immune System – Part 1 and Part 2).
