A is for Anti-Aging Advice – Dos and Don’ts to Look Younger

Anti-Aging Makeup for Natural Beauty

We’re not getting any younger.  So what?  There’s nothing we can do to stop the clock, but we can stop the wrinkles and the lines and the frumpy old lady look!

Just to start off with the basics – Do cleanse your skin regularly and take off your makeup every night.  Do drink plenty of water.  Do use moisturizer.  Do stay out of the sun.  Don’t smoke.  Don’t sleep on your face.  Don’t yoyo diet (it will pull and stretch your skin out of shape.).

OK – now that we’ve got the basics out of the way, how about using makeup to make you look younger and not using it to make you look older?

Use light pink or nude lipstick or lip gloss to give your lips just a bit of a rosy hue.  As we get older, our lips tend to shrink and dark lipstick on thin lips can make you look older, especially when the lipstick runs out the wrinkles.  De-emphasize your lips with a near to nude shade, and play up your eyes for a younger look! Try using Lip Gloss instead of lipstick to create the illusion of thicker, younger, puffed-up lips, especially when applied to the middle of lip

You want to draw attention away from your flaws and put it on your assets.  Eyes can stand out for a younger look, so pay attention to what works for your eye color.  (Please don’t match your eye shadow to your clothing, or your shoes and your purse – PLEASE!!!). Certain eyeshadow shades  make your eyes pop. For brown or hazel eyes, golds and browns are gorgeous. Blue eyes look great with blue-gray and lighter browns and dark eyes look fantastic with dark shades.

Y is for Yogurt to make You look lovelY

Yogurt for Natural Beauty for your Skin

Yogurt – Smush it all over your face for amazing natural skin care!

All of those wonderful features that make yogurt so good for the insides of you, also make it great for the outsides of you.  Yogurt contains lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that helps to smooth dry and rough skin and reduce the signs aging such as wrinkles and age spots and fine lines.

Using a yogurt face mask will help slough away dead skin that clogs up your pores and makes your skin look dull and old.

Yogurt is great for those of you who break out or have acne.  It’s rich in zinc, which is powerful in healing acne blemishes. And the friendly bacteria and probiotics in yogurt will help to get rid of those nasty bacteria that cause breakouts!

Yogurt helps to moisturize that dry skin you’re battling, especially in the middle of winter right now.  When you use yogurt on your face, make sure it’s plain and not flavored.  The ingredients you add to the yogurt will boost its effectiveness in their own special ways.

For dry skin, add some honey to the yogurt before applying to your face.  Grated carrots help dry skin as well.

For oily skin, a tablespoon or two of fresh lemon juice will help to get rid of the dead skin cells that make you look dull and will sap up some of that oil.  Other ingredients that work well on your face with yogurt are banana, cucumber, oatmeal and aloe vera.

Yogurt Cucumber Mask

1 cup plain yogurt (organic is great)

½ C. honey

1 C. Cucumber

Put everything in the blender to form a liquidy mixture.  Spread it on your face with gentle, circular upward motions.  Leave on for about 15 minutes.  Rinse with warm water and apply your favorite homemade natural moisturizer.

You will look lovelY!

G is for Girls – Thank Heaven for Little Girls

Thank heaven for little girls.  They grow up to be naturally beautiful women like all of us!

Recent news told us that one mother was injecting her 8 year old daughter with Botox because she had wrinkles.  And that the little girl “wanted” the Botox and searched her face for age-related wrinkles!  This little girl also gets waxed (?), wants to have breast enlargement surgery and a nose job, and she participates in beauty pageants.  What are we saying to this little girl and in turn, to all the other little girls in the world.  The message is – you are not good enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough, not thin enough, etc.

We need to teach  little girls the right things when they are young so that they will grow up in the most delightful, naturally healthy way.  There’s an epidemic of obesity in young children today.  It’s the responsibility of parents or other caregivers to right this wrong.

Provide healthy, nutritious and well-balanced meals at home.  Get rid of the junk foods in the house.  Stop depending on fast food restaurants for your kids’ meals.

Encourage kids to get out and play.  Give them the support they need to try new games and sports.  Limit the time they can spend in front of the computer.

Set a good example for your little girls.  Eat healthy.  Take pride in your bodies no matter what the size.  Manage your weight.  Get some healthy exercise.

Be a Healthy Senior Woman who is a role model for those heavenly little girls.

F is for Facials – Fantastic for your Face!

Facials enhance your Natural Beauty

I advocate do it yourself, homemade spa and natural beauty products whenever possible, but I also believe that every so often you need to go and get your face done professionally (and a massage for your body) so that you know what it should feel like.  Then you can continue for the 3 or 6 or 12 months to do it yourself.

Finding a good esthetician (E is for Esthetician) who is an expert in skin care is first and foremost.  She can tell what type of skin you have, whether you have any challenges that need to be addressed, what type of products would work best for your face and your particular skin.  During a professional facial, you will probably also have some extractions to get rid of whiteheads or blackheads (it hurts a little, but it’s really worth it to get that crud out!).

A facial (even if you do it at home) should encompass the following steps:

Cleansing – Deep pore cleaning using the appropriate type of cleanser for your particular skin type – normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature.

Analysis of your skin -  The esthetician will cover your eyes and look through a brightly lit magnifying mirror to check your skin condition.  ** This is where a professional facial differs from your at-home type and why you should have it done every so often.

Exfoliation – Using a machine or a chemical, the esthetician will gently “peel” the outer layer of dry, dull, and old skin cells.

Extraction – This is the part that can hurt when those nasty blackheads and whiteheads are plucked from the  under layer of your face.

Facial Massage – This is the part that feels really, really good!  Soft, soothing strokes relax and revitalize your skin.

Facial Mask – We do these at home with fruits and yogurts, but in a spa you’ll probably get some fancy expensive creams targeted to your particular skin type.  This is left on for about 20 minutes while your scalp and/or feet are massaged!

Toners and moisturizers are the finishing touches – and then you walk out glowing and rejuvenated!  Fantastic!

Y is for Yogurt – on Your face & in Your hair!

Yogurt Facial for Natural Beauty

Yogurt is one of those products every healthy senior woman and young woman who wants to be naturally beautiful should have – for the inside of you as well as the outside of you!  Eat ‘em, drink ‘em, smear ‘em on your face!  That’s what I like.  So one carton of plain yogurt can go a long way.  Eat it for breakfast with fresh fruit and granola, and use the leftovers in your hair and on your face!

Yogurt is packed full of nutrients – zinc, calcium, Vitamins B1,2,6, 12; and some protein and probiotics.  These nutrients can help you live longer and healthier by decreasing the risks of osteoporosis, cancer, high blood pressure and yeast infections.  And the zinc content in yogurt will help to keep your skin clear so it’s a great remedy for youthful acne.  The creaminess of the texture will revive and refresh tired skin, while the lactic acid is a fabulous remedy for reducing the size of pores, tightening skin, and sloughing off the old, dead flakes of skin to make your skin  smoother and softer.

PROTEIN MASK to refresh your tired face:

1 egg white,

1TBL.  yogurt,

1 tsp. honey.

Mix and apply on face and neck for cleansing, toning, moisturizing and nourishing benefits all in one!

2 More Recipes:

Dr. Ox recommends a mask made out of yogurt (for the exfoliating lactic acid), sunflower oil(moisturizer), and lemon to bleach out those depressing age spots!

And another simple face mask can be made by mixing a TBL. of yogurt with a TBL. of honey.  With all facial masks, gently exfoliate first and apply mask mixture with your fingertips all over the face, avoiding the eyes.  Leave on for about 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.  Apply your favorite moisturizer (I like Shea Butter) and delight in the deliciousness of a silky, smooth YOU on Yogurt!
