O is for Oil of Oregano and other Outrageous Claims

Oil of Oregano for Natural Health

I’m a firm believer in natural health, natural beauty and natural remedies.  However, I am skeptical about claims from companies who say their products “cure everything from asthma to cancer.”  And these companies are usually the ones who have infomercials or long-winded sales pitches that go on and on forever.

Oil of oregano is one product that has been hyped to the max.  I believe it may be useful to fight bacteria or fungus.  But could it possibly be useful to fight all of the following???

According to the website Wild Oregano Oil http://www.wildoiloforegano.com/

Wild oregano  maybe used to treat – “Acne, Animal bites, Arthritis, Asthma, Athlete’s foot, Bad breath, Bed sores and Ulcerations, Bladder Infections, Bromidosis (foul odor associated with excessive sweating), Boils, Bruises, Burns, Bursitis, Candidiasis, Canker sores, Cellulitis, Cold sores, Colds/Flu, Cough, Cryptosporidium, Dandruff and Seborrhea, Diaper rash, Diarrhea, Ear infections, Ebola and Dengue Fever, Eczema, Fingernail fungus, Frostbite and frostburn, Giardiasis, Gum Disease, Food poisoning, Head lice, Headaches, Hepatitis, Herpes, Impetigo, Irritable Bowel syndrome, Leg cramps, Nail fungus, Paronychia, Peptic ulcer, Pneumonia, Psoriasis, Prostate disorders, Pruritis, Radiation injury/burns, Ringworm, Rosacea, Scabies, Shingles, Sinusitis, Sore throat, Sports injuries, Tick borne illnesses, Thrush, Toothache, Tuberculosis, Varicose veins, Venomous bites, Warts and Wounds. Many other conditions are also treatable”.

???????????  Even if Oil of Oregano is a valuable treatment for fungus, perhaps, which I do believe it is – after reading this, I will automatically back off using it for anything. Especially after reading disclaimers that say – these products are  “not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.”  ?????????????????  What about the whole list of diseases and conditions just listed???????????

All I am saying is – be careful not to listen to hype.  There are and will always be “Snake Oil” salespeople who will package a natural remedy and sell it to you at an inflated price.  Natural health care should come from nature – and nature doesn’t charge an arm and a leg to cure a broken arm or leg.

Be careful!  Be knowledgeable, safe and secure in your healthcare choices.  Integrative medicine means using everything that is available – Eastern medicine, western medicine, herbs, poultices, plants and foods.

“Snake Oil,” by the way, is an actual treatment used in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  The skin of the Chinese water snake is full of Omega 3 fatty acids, known to reduce inflammation.  So the Chinese have used “snake oil” for centuries for arthritis pain and joint aches.
