B is for the Battle of the Bulge – If you can’t Beat it, don’t Bare it!

Natural Beauty for Hiding Belly Bulge

We naturally beautiful women have got to take care of our natural health and pay attention to problems like belly bulge.  But when all else fails (exercise, diet and lots of water), we’ve also got to pay attention to our natural beauty.  Got belly bulge – Hide It!

According to Stacy and Clinton of my favorite TV Show, What Not To Wear (http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/tv/what-not-to-wear), there are tricks to making your belly look better:

1.  Wear a great, structured jacket which gives you curves.

2.  Wear a ruched or banded dress which gives you a waist (yes, emphasize your waist because it’s usually the smallest part of your body!)

3.  Get a bra fitting and make sure your breasts are held up high and perky.  That gives you more of a separation between the bust and the belly.

4.  A deep V-neckline raises the eyes up to your neck and away from your belly, gives you a longer neckline and makes you look longer and leaner.

5. Wear A-line skirts that have more width at the bottom and taper up to the top, making you look tapered too!

And my last bit of advice has to do with the jeans we all love to wear.  When you wear jeans, beware of the dreaded Muffin Tops (see previous post – J is for Jeans and Muffin Tops).  Jeans that sit too high on the waist or too low on the hips just push that belly fat up and out where everyone can see it – Boooo!  But jeans that flatter your figure, even if you have to buy one or two sizes bigger – better bigger than bulging!

Certain types of clothing will help camouflage the fat, like Spanx (http://www.spanx.com/home/index.jsp) or Not Your Daughter’s Jeans (http://www.nydj.com/), and for those of us in warmer climates (or the rest of you who are looking forward to warm weather or dreading the day you have to put on a bathing suit!), MiracleSuits (http://www.miraclesuit.com/).

U is for Urban Chic – is it for U or is it is not for U?

Urban Chic for Natural Beauty

Every year there are new fashion trends and new fashion terms and as Heidi Klum says, “In fashion, one day you’re in and the next day, you’re out.”

If you’re one of the girls from Sex and the City (the early seasons) or from Gossip Girl today and you’ve got your trendy, latest style Melrose Place outfit on while you’re sipping a martini in a hot Hollywood club – well then, you better be “urban chic” cause you’re supposed to be young and cool.  To many of the younger readers, I would say it means a lot and you should pay attention to what’s in and what’s out so you can look hip and cool and trendy and today.

But what does it all mean to the more mature of us naturally beautiful women?

For us more Healthy Senior Women – quite honestly, I think it means nothing.  Regardless of what your status is – married, single, straight, lesbian, retired or still working – we just need to look like we took some time to put ourselves together.  It may not be the up-to-the-minute “urban chic” look, but we need to look in the mirror and take stock of what we see.

Do you have muffin tops (see previous post – J is for Jeans and Muffin Tops) – get yourself some jeans that are looser and lower in the waist and you’ll much more chic!

Do you have panty lines (see previous post U is for Underwear – r U Undercover Correctly?) – OMG!!!

Are your roots showing?  Are your teeth discolored?  Is your hairstyle something from your 1960 hippie days?  Is your skirt at an unflattering length – for U?  Are you wearing a little blush and a little mascara so your eyes and lips are noticeable?  Are you clothes too small, or are they too big?  Look in the mirror now and see if you look like you cared.

That’s “chic” to a naturally beautiful, Healthy Senior Woman, and I don’t care if it’s urban, suburban, or straight off the farm – we are all naturally beautiful and we should take the time to look it!

B is for Baubles, Bangles & Beauty

Baubles, Bangles for Natural Beauty

They say that clothes make the man; well perhaps, accessories make the woman – naturally beautiful!  Just as it’s really important to take care of your natural health and preserve your natural beauty, it’s also smart to pay attention to your outward appearance and make that as good as can be!

Everyone has a different type of figure and not all things work on all people.  Here are a few suggestions for making your body type the most beautiful of all!

You curvy women with those fabulous hourglass figures should wear eye-catching jewelry closest to your faces.  Those chandelier earrings or brilliant chokers around your neck will draw the eyes up to your face and away from your waist.  Whatever you do, don’t draw attention to your largest parts (like your voluptuous bosom) by wearing long hanging necklaces or bangles that sit right at your waist.

Little bitty petites should emphasize their small size and accentuate with delicate and fine pieces that fit their body types.  No gargantuan pieces for teeny tinys!

If you’re tall, bring on the bling.  Your body can take a full statement jewelry piece that will sit well on a long, leggy body.

If you have a flatter chest and a more boyish figure, load up the medium length chains with a lot of different textures to camouflage what you don’t have, and bring attention to what you do have – a cute little body!

If you’re fuller figured, go ahead and wear some large statement piece but keep it up high around the neck and face to draw attention up to your assets, and now down to your asses!

There are some more simple rules to follow for choosing jewelry to fit your body type that just make common sense.  Don’t let a big piece of jewelry sit on your largest part and make all eyes look at it.  Jewelry can emphasize the smallest part of your body, just like belts emphasize the fact that your waist is your smallest part of your body.  Earrings should contrast with your facial structure.  Round faces look good in angular or square earrings, and the opposite is true, thin faces with wide earrings, and wide faces with little earrings.

Jewelry can add a special touch to your appearance – just do it right and you will look, feel and Be Beautiful!

N is for New Look, New Attitude

New Look, New Attitude

So — you’re 35 and you have never changed your hairdo since you were in grade school.  You don’t know anything about makeup except maybe a little lip gloss, and your clothes you wear today are the clothes you wore last year.  Or you’re a young naturally beautiful woman of 27 or you’re 65 and you’re a healthy senior woman of 80????

SO WHAT!!!!!  I don’t want to be cliché but TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!  It’s never too late to make a change.

You know by now that TLC’s What Not To Wear is one of my favorite programs.  I am constantly amazed by the transformations they can achieve.  I have seen them take the frumpiest old lady and turn her into the hottest chick in town.

Makeovers are one of the most popular formats for a TV show – why?  Because no matter how set in our ways or how much we say we really don’t care about makeup or hairstyles or fashion — I believe that deep down inside every one of us, there is a secret desire to look hot, to feel sexy, to look like one of those beautiful people the media puts in our faces.

A change in your look doesn’t diminish your intelligence.  A new hairstyle won’t lower your social standing.  A bit of mascara and blush won’t make you a fanatical conservative rather than a peace-loving liberal.

But it might just make you smile when you look in the mirror.  And if you can smile at yourself, you just might smile at others — and smiling people tend to have happier lives.  If you think you look good, you might have a little more confidence.  And having a little more confidence might raise your self-esteem.  And with better self-esteem, you might get a better job, or make some new friends, or fall in love.  It’s worth a try, don’t you think?

J is for Jeans and Muffin Tops

Just Say No to Muffin Top Jeans

The person in the photo above is not looking naturally beautiful – do you think???

I am a devoted fan of What Not To Wear (http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/tv/what-not-to-wear).  I have learned so much from Stacy and Clinton.  I’ve learned that no matter what your size is, you can look hot and sexy.  I’ve learned that it pays to emphasize the smallest part of your body – the waist – and draw attention to it, instead of hiding it behind big clothes that just draw attention to the bigness.

And I’ve learned a lot about jeans.  We want to look naturally beautiful in our jeans because we’d love to wear them all the time.  But look around you and study women in jeans – Oh My Goodness what are you thinking?  Look in the mirror – does that “muffin top” around your waist actually look good to you.  What I’ve learned from WNTW and Stacy and Clinton is that jeans that are too high or too low can create this evil muffin top.  When jeans are too high around the actual waist, they push everything out over the top.  And jeans that have a super-low rise (which so many women seem to favor), create the muffin top.  If you don’t have a perfect hourglass figure and your waist looks bigger than the rest of your body, choose a different jean – one that sits just below the natural waistline and allows your waist to breathe and move naturally – and for goodness sake – don’t wear too tight jeans ever!
