W is for Wrinkles – not Welcome for Women!

We Don’t Want Wrinkles

We’re not getting older, we’re getting better!  And we’re getting even better without wrinkles.  Here are 10 tips for preventing those wrinkles we don’t want!

1.   Drink Water.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again –  Water is the #1 key to natural health and natural beauty.  Our bodies are mostly water and when you’re dehydrated, it’s like a dehydrated grape – A Prune.  (See previous post D is for Drink Water – How Much is Enough?)

2.  Exfoliate your old, dead skin.  Dry flaky skin on your face and body will make you look old, sallow and depleted.  Try a natural sugar exfoliants or have some microdermabrasion.  Getting rid of the old will make room for the new.

3.  Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.  First, clean your face.  Don’t go to bed with makeup on – No, no, no!  Clean your face with a gentle cleanser and then apply a moisturizer.  Here at NBW, we’ve got lots of suggestions and recipes for gentle homemade moisturizer using almond or olive oil — or use a $100 cream if you wish.  Just make sure you put something on your face.

4.  Wear sunscreen – all the time.  A tan may be flattering, but wrinkles are not – so limit the amount of time you spend in the sun.  And never, ever allow your neck and chest to get sun-burnt, that’s where you’ll first see those signs of aging. There are some healthy sunscreens.  Smear them on your naturally beautiful hands and faces (we neglect our hands and they are always exposed to the sun’s rays).

5.   Get a good night’s sleep.  When you haven’t had enough sleep & you’re tired all day, the body produces excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells.  See Previous Post – S is for Sleep – Some Timely Tips for Sound Snoozing).

6.  Don’t squint, you’ll get wrinkly eyes.  Don’t scowl.  You’ll get frown lines.  But do smile – those smile lines around your face show that you’ve lived a good and happy life!

7.  Eat healthy.  The healthier you eat, the better your skin will look.  The essential fatty acids in salmon and other cold water fish will help nourish skin and keep it plump and youthful, helping to reduce wrinkles.  Anti-oxidant-rich fruits and vegetables help fight the damage caused by free radicals and will keep your skin looking younger and more radiant.

8.   Don’t sleep on your stomach.  If you sleep on your face, your brow will become furrowed.  And if you sleep on your side, you’ll get wrinkles on your cheeks and chin.

9.  Don’t smoke.  We all know by now that it will kill you.  And if that doesn’t make you stop, just know that it will also wrinkle you up like a prune.  Smoking increases the breakdown of collagen and elastin which speeds up the thinning of your skin and brings on those nasty aging wrinkles.

10.  Don’t worry. Be Happy! Stress and tension speed up the wrinkling process. Remember — we all get old, but some of us stay naturally beautiful forever!

Natural Beauty Ways to Reduce Wrinkles

Grandmothers are beautiful.  And back in the day, grandmothers were a wrinkly lot.  But today, I know a lot of women who are grandmothers and are naturally beautiful because they take care of their natural health and natural beauty.

Here are some more tips to reduce wrinkles:

5.  Drink Water.  I realize I’m a broken record on this, but to set the record straight – I believe water is the #1 key to natural health and natural beauty.  Our bodies are mostly water and when you’re dehydrated, it’s like a dehydrated grape – A Prune!  (see previous post D is for Drink Water – How Much is Enough?

6.  Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.  But first, clean your skin!  So many women go to bed with their makeup on – No, no, no!  Clean your face with a gentle cleanser and then apply a moisturizer.  We’ve got plenty of suggestions for how to make your own moisturizer – use olive oil or avocado oil,  buy a $100 cream.  Just get it on your face!

7.  Exfoliate the dead skin.  Flaky, dry skin accumulating on your face and body will just make you look old, sallow and depleted.  Use one of our sugar exfoliants or have some microdermabrasion.  Out with the old will bring out the new!

8.  Don’t scowl.  You’ll get frown lines.  Don’t squint, you’ll get wrinkly eyes.  But do smile – those smile lines around your face show that you’ve lived a good and happy life!

9.  Wear sunscreen.  Do some research on the latest news in sunscreen.  Your body needs a little bit of sun and Vitamin D to stay healthy, but limit it by using a really protective coverup.  There’s a lot of controversy around sunscreen, but all experts seem to agree that there are healthy products available – find them and smear them on your naturally beautiful faces and hands (we neglect our hands and they are always exposed to the sun’s rays!).

10.  Be nice to yourself. Stress and tension speed up the wrinkling process.  Don’t worry.  Be Happy!  And remember we all get old, but some of us stay naturally beautiful forever!

W is for Wrinkles – What We Women don’t Want

Wrinkles are not for Naturally Beautiful Women

First of all, if you don’t want wrinkles, get the cigar or cigarette out of your mouth!  Not only will it kill ya, but it’ll wrinkle you up like a prune!  Smoking produces releasing an enzyme that breaks down collagen and elastin, important components of the skin.  The less collagen and elastin you have, the thinner and more vulnerable your skin will be — and the faster the signs of aging will appear.

Here are 10 more ways to reduce the amount of wrinkles on your beautiful faces:

1.  Don’t overdo your time in the sun.  I understand that tan is flattering, but wrinkles are not – so limit the amount of time you spend in the sun.  And never allow your neck and chest to get burnt, as that is the first place you’ll see those signs of aging.

2.  Get a good night’s sleep.  When you don’t get enough sleep and you are walking around tired all day, the body produces excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells.  For hints on how to get a good night’s sleep, see previous post – S is for Sleep – Some Timely Steps for Sound Snoozing.

3.  Don’t sleep on your stomach (boy, do I need to hear this one!)  When you sleep on your face, your brow will become furrowed.  And when you sleep on your side, you’ll get wrinkles on your cheeks and chin.

4.  Eat healthy.  The healthier you eat, the better your skin will look.  Salmon and other cold water fish contain essential fatty acids which help nourish skin and keep it plump and youthful, helping to reduce wrinkles.  Fruits and vegetables contain valuable anti-oxidants that fight the damage caused by free radicals  which helps skin look younger and more radiant, and protects against some of the effects of aging on your skin.

W is for Wrinkles – Ways to Waive them Naturally

Carole at 62

That’s me up there – at 62! I’ve got a couple of wrinkles – there’s no getting around them!  But you can do a lot to make them seem less apparent.

The very first and most important thing is to Drink More Water – I know, I’m a broken record.  But what causes wrinkling (besides gravity and age) is dehydration.  So drink enough water to keep your skin plumped up (see previous post:  D is for Drink Water – How Much is Enough?)

Using a natural, good quality oil on your face every night will keep your skin juicy and supple.  Sweet almond oil is a great choice.  An avocado right out of your refrigerator is full of healthy fats that will nourish your skin. (A is for Avocado Face Mask for Dry Skin).

And yes, you heard right – dark chocolate is good for you!  While you might not want to put too much in your mouth and face the possibility of weight gain, you can take that chocolate and smear it on your face to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Make a paste of  1/4 C. unsweetened dark cocoa powder and 1/ 8 C. coconut milk, 1 tsp. of EVOO – extra virgin olive oil and a heaping TBL. of green tea powder. Cover your face with the paste and let it sit for 15 minutes.  Try not to lick your face!  Rinse off with warm water.  Apply a moisturizer – I like shea butter.  Wow!

W is for Wrinkles – We all get them!

wrinkles and natural beauty

We’re not getting any younger, but we can still look pretty darn good at any age.  Wrinkles are a natural occurrence as you age.  Whether it’s from sun exposure or lack of moisture (how many times do I have to tell you to drink more water????), smiling and frowning, smoking, or gravity – eventually we all get some wrinkles.   As we get older, the skin also loses its elasticity, is less able to retain moisture, the glands excrete oil less efficiently and the skin starts to droop and create depressions.  It’s very depressing, isn’t it?

There are a lot of cosmetic procedures that can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  See Previous posts on Facelift Alternatives – Fraxel Laser Treatments, Microdermabrasion,  Thermage, and Fillers like Botox and Restylane and Juvaderm.  There’s a whole gazillion dollar industry out there ready to burn and fill and scrape and resurface you into looking younger.  And if you like that kind of thing and it will make you feel better about yourself, then I say go ahead and do it.

After all, natural beauty comes from within and the first step to feeling beautiful on the outside is to feel beautiful on the inside.   Nothing makes a person more beautiful than a radiant smile that comes from loving one’s self.

However, if you’re as interested in your natural health as your natural beauty, the see one of the next posts for how to reduce wrinkles naturally!
